Kerala Bureau of Industrial Promotion (K-BIP) is an Autonomous Body under Department of Industries & Commerce with Principal Secretary (Industries) as the Chairman and Director (Industries & Commerce) as the Executive Director. This is a registered society under the Travancore Cochin Scientific Literary & Charitable Societies Act, 1955. The Bureau was established in the year 1991.

K-BIP is constituted for promoting the potential business opportunities of the State to the foresighted entrepreneurs and to highlight the ideal business climate prevailing in Kerala. K-BIP works in close co-ordination with other Promotional Agencies for the industrial development giving specific attention to the strategic advantages, the various Governmental supports and other incentives offered in the different sectors of the industry.

K-BIP provides operational flexibility and acts as support mechanism for the Department of Industries & Commerce, Government of Kerala. K-BIP also functions as an interface between the prospective entrepreneurs and other State Agencies K-BIP also interacts between National and International agencies for technology upgradation, technology development and technology management for the various industrial sectors.
The major activities of K-BIP are:
  • To collect, process and disseminate information/data on investments opportunities in industry, commerce, trade and other related areas the State of Kerala or the benefit of present and prospective entrepreneurs.
  • To identify prospective entrepreneur and motivate them in establishing industrial units and other productive ventures in the State.
  • To help entrepreneurs plan projects in terms of:
                * Choice of product, technology, plant and machinery and location.
                * Preparation of Project Profiles, Market Survey Reports and Project Reports.
  • To organize training programmes workshop, etc. for the benefit of entrepreneurs in general and specific target groups in particular.
  • To undertake or arrange to undertake general or specific studies in the problems of small-scale industries in Kerala and to evolve strategies for combating such problems.
  • To co-ordinate the extension and promotional activities of all institutions involved in the industrial development of the State.
  • To publish literature in the form of papers, case studies, reports, brochures, pamphlets, periodicals, digests, journals, project profiles; model project reports and distribute them to present and prospective entrepreneurs and other relevant institutions.
  • To establish, develop and support centres for documentation, maintenance and supplying of data, projects and information, which may be useful to industries, Government and entrepreneurs.

The Industrial Cluster Development programme under MSE-CDP Scheme of Ministry of MSME (Micro Small & Medium Enterprises), Government of India was initiated to overcome the disadvantages of economies of scale, weak capital base, increased competitiveness, fast decision making process, etc. in the MSME Sector The activities of the Industrial Cluster Development throughout the State are being coordinated by K-BIP in association with the Ministry of MSME, Government of India. K-BIP is promoting industrial clusters in sectors like food processing, terra tile, wood, plastic, bamboo & cane, garments, etc. that have been highlighting the industry specific needs of the sector.

The K-BIP has been making pioneering efforts in developing the industrialization of Kerala. A prime example of this is the National Centre for HACCP Certification (NCHC), ensuring food safety & hygiene through the audit & certification of International Food Safety (HACCP) System in the food processing sector in line with the International standards.

The Kerala State Bamboo Mission under K-BIP has been revitalizing the bamboo sector, thus enhancing income generation. The activities of the Bamboo Mission include plantation development, artisan training, cluster development, marketing support etc.

K-BIP was instrumental in conceiving and implementing several major promotional activities for the State. They include organising Promotional Events of the Department of Industries & Commerce which includes Business to Business Meets, Workshops, Seminars, Training Programmes, holding proactive discussions with entrepreneurs and organising facilitation meetings for them with the policy makers of the State.

K-BIP had the opportunity to choreograph the State’s effort in improving its visibility as an investment destination by organising and participating in various National and International Events and have won accolades for the State. K-BIP coordinates the participation of Kerala State in various National and International Events, facilitating the participation of MSME Units of the State. Apart from this, K-BIP conducts several Promotional Events of the Government like Malappuram Crafts Mela, Kerala Bamboo Fest etc. focusing on the promotion of products from the key sectors of the State.
